Fixed Salary: $ 21.25
Weeks per Year: 41

General Summary:

The Mentor Teacher role is critical in guiding Head Start teachers to further develop their planning, instruction, and content knowledge. Mentor Teachers help orient teachers to their school community and to teaching in general. Mentor Teachers will also provide training and technical support for this Head Start career. Requirement is least an associate degree in in early childhood education, child development or other related* degree and required experience.

*Coursework equivalent to a major related to Early Childhood Education includes but is not limited to the following:

A. Teaching Credentials: licensure or certification by the state for Pre-K teachers recognized by the local school district or state education agency as qualifying teachers to teach pre-school children in that school district or state.  This typically requires a bachelor’s degree plus licensure or certification.

OR

B. *Coursework if related degree: No less than 9 semester credits in courses that focus specifically on child development, early childhood education and curriculum, early childhood teaching and assessment or related areas and 6 credit hours in psychology, family development, health and physical development, mathematics, science, and children’s literature or related areas. Such courses may have been taken in various departments, such as Education, Home Economics, Music, Art, Library Sciences, Physical Education and Recreation, Psychology, Family Studies, and others and must specifically address young children.

Salary: $21.25 per hour
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, M-F, 41 weeks per year
Location:  Woodbourne or Monticello, NY
